Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. They often believe it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal however it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa the city of Ontario. She had a dream to dance however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing her dance partners. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was six feet and one inch tall. After I became too big for my male friends, I quit. Some former dancers switch into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school which led her in the right direction. She was encouraged to try out for roles in a school production. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated at the age of 20 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. In the last 20 years, Brugel's roles in the world of television and on the screen have been numerous. The role of Rita from the award winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and only appeared occasionally.
